Orlando being eleven years old was required to retire in a few months. Mr. William’s insurance would only pay for a “working” new dog for him. However, when news of this spread, a donor came forward to allow Orlando to retire and live with Mr. Williams as a pet. “It’s a time to rejoice,” Williams said at a press conference. “I appreciate that people got together and they helped me to keep Orlando. ... Somebody made a donation, and it is going to cover him for the rest of his life.” Williams praised Orlando for his loyalty. Orlando was trained as a puppy at the Guiding Eyes for the Blind organization. In Atlanta, a blind veteran, David Furukawa was walking with his four year old son and his seeing eye dog, Simon. A car didn’t stop at a stop sign and drove into them. Simon, a Boxer, was able to pull the boy away from the car. When people came forward to assist, Simon hobbled after them as he was concerned about who was “taking” the son away. One of Simon’s legs was broken, and his side was gashed along with suffering internal bleeding. He later died at an animal clinic. The boy received cuts and bruises. Mr. Furukawa suffered a broken knee, elbow and foot. Mr. Furukawa said that Simon was his hero. “He sacrificed himself to make sure my son was OK,” he said. I read a lot of books about angels and I do believe that their dog is now in heaven, looking down and watching over them! A blind woman’s guide dog barks in the middle of the night as two robbers were downstairs. Not only does Yolanda, a Yellow Labrador chase the men out but she also uses the phone to call 911! The men had turned on the woman’s stove, and when she smelled gas, called 911 for help. The operator told her that the police were already right outside because the call had been placed a few minutes earlier. She calls Yolanda, her angel. I say Yolanda saved the woman’s life twice!
