Pets Spring Into Doggy Treats and Tips

tr> I love it when I find common sense, easy to do tips to help our furry friends to maintain their overall well being.

Spring is coming. At least when the two feet of snow that fell last week in Upstate New York melts for good and I can see what my yard looks like. My dogs just think that everything I do is fascinating. So they have to be outside with me for a few hours at a time to supervise the raking and ongoing battle of “who is going to win” the weeds or me. I don’t have a fenced in yard so I keep them on separate, long nylon ropes and tie them up far enough apart that their ropes won’t get tangled up together.

This spring I plan to get a large plastic bowl and fill it with water mixed with low-sodium chicken broth and also throwing in a teething toy or two and freezing it. (Low-sodium chicken broth or making your own to add to your dog’s water bowl will also help if your older dog isn’t feeling well). I am hoping that if I put this frozen “concoction” in a central location on the deck, that Gracie, my older Standard Schnauzer will share it with Rosie, the two year old, who wisely knows that Gracie is the “alpha diva.” Hoping I will even get to shoot a little video of the two of them licking it up! Actually Rosie will probably just try and bite pieces of it off...she is still in the “aggressive chewing” stage. That is also why I think it is safer to make a large chunk of ice instead of giving them an ice cube. I wouldn’t trust that Rosie would try and swallow it whole. Another way that you can make sure that your doggy is staying cool in hot weather is with a dog bed pad that has a zipper to allow you to insert a gel pack that you have kept frozen in the freezer. These gel packs are good for some six to eight hours and can be re-frozen over and over. There are also doggy pet beds where you pour water directly into the bed too.

Check out our Cooler Gel Packs, Cool Bed III and Cool Lounger Pet Beds to keep your “best furry friend” safe and cool all spring and summer to make both of you happy! Look through our collection of plush crate pads that come in a variety of colors too. Remember you may also need a second pad. Keep a pad in the room of your house that doesn’t have the crate in it so your dog can nap comfortably while you take the couch. Check out our website at doggy beds and see all that we have in dog beds and doggy bed sofas too. Free shipping. Let a sleeping dog lie...in comfort!
