Pets What Treats Are You Feeding Your Doggy?

tr> I remember when my babies were old enough to no longer need jars of baby food but could start to eat “real” people food. It’s feels the same with my puppy and older dog. You want to make sure that the treat you are giving them is a real treat and not a real threat to their health!

You got to do some research. Just the way people may have allergies or are sensitive to certain foods, the same can be said for your puppy or dog. One of the most important ingredients you need to look out for are any jerky treats that are made from sweet potatoes, chicken, duck or dried fruit. The United States Food and Drug Administration has investigated these kind of treats but cannot identify which ingredient that had made some 3,600 dogs sick and 580 died since 2007! Especially be aware if the package says “Made in China.”

Let’s just be safe and go back to the basics. Carrots, bananas or spread organic peanut butter on pieces of apple, with any seeds removed, are good for your dog as a healthy treat. Pears, also with the seeds taken out, plums, cantaloupe and pineapple are also great. These fruits contain vitamin A, vitamin C, fiber and potassium. Grapefruit and oranges may be given but in moderation as they have natural sugar in them. On occasion (weekly) mix one hard boil egg, or one scrambled egg or brown rice into their dog food as they offer good protein for their skin and coat. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070413100739AA7e4kC.

I love bully sticks as a chew treat. When I have to leave my fur babies in their crates for a few hours then I give them one to keep them occupied. They are made from the erectile tissue of bulls. These sticks are high in protein, vitamins and minerals and are great for aggressive chewers. With bully sticks, I know that my dogs are “entertained” while I do my errands and not feeling stressed out and alone. Again, look for sticks that are NOT “Made in China” and remove them when they are chewed down to small pieces to prevent any choking possibility.

NEVER feed your pet chocolate, grapes, raisins, avocados, green tomatoes or anything containing garlic and onions.

And remember, your pet naps and sleeps some fourteen hours a day! So to make sure your doggy also has a great bed to sleep and nap on, look through our collection of plush doggy beds and crate pads that come in a variety of colors too. Remember you may also need a second pad. Keep a pad in the room of your house that doesn’t have the crate in it so your dog can nap comfortably while you take the couch.
