How I Removed My Carpet Stains #Giveaway #Review

I have kids.  I have carpeted floors.  Go ahead and do the quick math. I was sent a sample to review.  A positive review was not required.  These are my own honest opinions.  This post may include affiliate links. I was pretty anal about my house pre-kids.  It’s embarrassing to admit, but I even once asked my own mother not to sit on my couch while eating a piece of pizza.  That’s crazy.  Then, I had kids and everything changed.  It was a slow change with my first daughter, but has been at rapid speed ever since.  That rule about not eating on the couch?  It went out the window long ago.  At a certain point, you’re just looking for survival as a parent and if allowing my kiddos to eat a Pop-Tart on the couch will score me a private trip to the bathroom or just 5 minutes to get the dishwasher unloaded, its worth it.  There will be nice couches and carpet years from now.  For now, it is what it is. I vividly remember several years ago when my neighbor, kid-less at the time, stopped over quickly.  From the front door she could see my two girls sitting at their little picnic table in the middle of the living room eating lunch.  “Hi girls”, she said.  “I see you’re eating mac and cheese … with ketchup … on the carpet”.  Yup.  Ask her about that now with two small boys of her own and we get a pretty good laugh. The moral of this story is that with kids, stains are going to happen.  It is absolutely inevitable (otherwise, please share with me your secret).  Since avoiding them is close to impossible, you may as well just be armed with the best possible stain remover, right?  Right.   When asked to review Genesis 950 Concentrate Carpet Cleaner, Pet Stain Remover & All Purpose Cleaner,  I was happy to try anything.  Just that morning, in fact, I was staring at a few unsightly carpet stains, knowing I should try to get them out … again.  We have a carpet shampooer that I love (you can see the one I have here on Amazon),  but the solution that I had been buying at the store for it just wasn’t doing much for these spots any more.

Amerikal has been in business for over 20 years. We primarily manufacture fountain solutions and other chemistry for the printing industry. Genesis 950 was initially created for printers to clean ink spills. It is a surfactant based cleaner that works with water to make stains water soluble. In doing so, it allows the bonds of the stain to break apart, and in turn lift the stain. Over time, printers were complaining that they were running out of Genesis 950 too fast. Eventually, they discovered the employees of these printers were sneaking the 950 from work to their homes. It turned out that 950 didn’t just remove ink, but removed paint stains, food spills and pet stains. It is also an amazing carpet cleaner. After we experimented with stains and 950, we decided to make it available publicly.

What I received was a gallon jug of concentrate and a spray bottle.  For smaller stains, spills and usage I mixed the solution with water in the spray bottle, doing the suggested 7 parts water to 1 part concentrate.  And I’ll tell you what: just one day later my 17-month old got a hold of a piece of ravioli (no sauce, but stuffed with cheese and spinach).  She basically smashed it as much as possible into the carpet on my stairs.  It was sticky, it was gooey and it was deep into the fibers.  I grabbed the spray bottle, gave it several squirts, let it sit for a couple minutes and then worked the stain with a damp cleaning cloth.  I knew during this process that not grabbing my camera was a mistake.  That stain lifted out immediately and you couldn’t tell for a moment that anything had ever taken place there. There is a specific spot in my carpet, right outside of my playroom, that has bothered me for months.  My girls were super creative with some purple putty one night and smashed it into the carpet more than I could if I tried my hardest.  While I finally got the putty removed after a lot of work, it left a yucky purple stain behind.  But not any more!  Check out this awesome before-and-after photo that I am so giddy over! There is just one stain that continues to elude me and now that this couldn’t get it out, I am convinced that nothing ever will, because the Genesis 950 got absolutely every other spot and stain out, even one that has been in my carpet for over 2 years!  And isn’t just for carpets.  I can be used on engines, pet stains and more! And something super, super important to me?  It is completely safe to use around children and pets.  It is green and eco-friendly, so you can feel comfortable using it!
