Pets What Is A Dog Boarding Kennel?

tr> When pet owners travel, fall ill, or face an emergency where they have to pick up and go, they deal with the dilemma of what to do with their pets. Some people will just attempt to take their pets with them, this is an option however, then other dilemma’s and even additional costs arise such as hotel restrictions, additional charges applied per pet per day, or even the pets falling ill due to motion sickness.

Some will hand over their pets to family or friends in a desperate attempt to not leave their pet unattended, but again the results could potentially be unsatisfactory. In addition, it may be a burden for them to have to care for your animals. They may not have any type of training or experience in handling pets and without proper care and attention your animal can become depressed or even attempt to escape.

Boarding is certainly an alternative. Boarding kennels are places where pets are kept and looked after especially when their masters are away. Usually the kennels are for dogs and cats, but some also take in horses, birds, reptiles, and exotic pets. Boarding Kennel professionals are trained to properly care for your pets, feeding them, showing them love, attention, and also allowing them to socialize with other animals. This is all to ensure your pet feels comfortable and not anxious or depressed.

Most boarding kennels provide many pet services like boarding, grooming, and training classes. In the United States and Canada, there are approximately 9,000 boarding kennels which offer their services to more than 30 million pet owners annually. So the next time you are going out of town, consider leaving your dog with a good dog boarding kennel. They will keep the dog with them saving him the stress of a long train or airplane ride. He can stay amongst his fellow creatures and in a place which, unlike a hotel, is meant for him.

Some kennels also offer dog training services which is an added advantage. He would receive more attention and care than he would have if he were home alone. And above all, these kennels have staff that are trained to spot any health problems that may arise. But how do you find a good dog boarding kennel? You can ask a friend, neighbor, veterinarian, animal shelter, or dog training expert for a recommendation. You can also check the Yellow Pages under "Kennels & Pet Boarding." Once you have compiled a list, it’s good to do a little background check.

Some states require boarding kennel inspections. If your state does, ensure the kennel you are considering displays a certificate saying that they meet the mandated standards. After selecting a few kennels, check if they can accommodate your pet for specific dates and can address your pet's special needs, if any.

If things look good so far, you can schedule a visit. While visiting check for things like how clean the facility is? How’s the smell? Is the staff caring? Is a comfortable temperature maintained? Is the light and ventilation proper? Do they provide resting boards and beddings to dogs? Developing a good relationship with a boarding kennel will make things a lot easier for your pet and you if the need for boarding arises.
