How To Make Chicken Coop

2016/5/3 9:27:18

Making a chicken coop should not be a difficult task and with the right tools and direction you will reach your goal in no time. The first thing you should do is draw out some plans - it does not have to be professional looking plans just something you can follow easily. After you feel you have adequate plans you should list the materials you will be needing. Now, the materials will vary because of the different climates where people live. If ( like Me ) you live in the United Kingdom you will know that the weather systems are not to be trusted, make sure you use rain resistant materials to construct the coop. You do not want to be using metal parts that are going to rust.

The chicken coop should be created around the amount of chickens you plan to house. If you want the chickens to lay healthy eggs then you must make sure there is going to be enough room for the chickens to live happily. If the chicken coop is to small then the chickens will feel uncomfortable and not lay their eggs correctly.

Try to build the coop somewhere that has a split amount of shade and sun, the chickens will need both of these. It is also a good idea to make sure you do not build the coop to close to any surrounding bushes. Many predators and general outdoor pests can make an unexpected appearance from surrounding bushes. Proper ventilation is another factor to consider when constructing the chicken coop. Certain types of insulation must be used to make sure the chickens are not to cold and certain ventilation must be used to make sure they are never to hot.

Plan out where you intend to put the feeders and water inside the pen. Chickens will always make a mess and foul whilst they are eating so you want to make sure they stick to one area of the pen when doing this. Keeping this in mind the coop should be designed and built so that you are able to reach in and clean the area when needed, again this is important to the health and egg production of the birds.

So, planning out your design for a chicken coop is a must with this process. Remember the vital points and keep the plan at hand when your constructing the coop. With patience and careful planning you should have your chicken coop up and running in no time.
