Dont Drive With Your Dog Without Reading This First

Any dog will go where we want no matter did he like it or not and all because of love for us. From my experience I know that for the dogs car driving is something unimaginable, unreal, and it's not just ride for them, it’s also to drastic changes in the territory in which they are often and suddenly coming to a place completely unknown to them. The first time I put my female Pekingese dog in the car without any preparation I realized that I don’t want to repeat such a nightmare after which I had to drive a car to dry cleaning.

Travel by car is the kind of shock for the dogs and whether drive with them will be pleasant or frustrating depends on us, namely from our serious approach to it and prepare our dog for a drive. First we must get used our dog to the car if we don’t want that our dog come to hate car driving and leather despising any drive and travel with us.

The most important thing is that our dog's first contact with the car be positive and allow a gradual period of adjustment to the car that would later become normal to our dog.

Start first by just carry in your dog into the car for a short time, cuddle him, give him praise and some dog’s candy, and then get him out of the car. Do not reward him if he was upset or wanted to run outside. The next time you get him into the car if he is calm cuddle him, give him praise and just close the door. Then take him out of the car. Next time do everything the same only this time sits in the driver’s place, start the car and then shut it down.  If the dog remained calm, cuddle him, praise and reward. If the dog was nervous and whimpering go back to the previous exercises.

If everything went well and if your dog remained calm, next time you take him to a short drive. What I forgot to say. These are two important things. First is to accustom your dog be on the back seat, especially if you often drive alone with him, to prevent the possibility to disturb you while driving because that can be dangerous. The second thing is not feeding your dog before you plan to drive him by car. Otherwise you can expect a dog to vomit all around your car. That happened to me with my female Pekingese dog, until I got advice from a friend whose dog passed dressage by professional trainers.

If you take a dog to protect him and have a faithful friend who entertains you and gives you a joy and you feed him and take care for him in the return, then I think it is natural that the dog is always with you (I mean of course when it’s possible, sure you will not take him to your work with you, etc.) Then drive him often by car, because your dog habituates on driving, so you can go with him on a long journey without any problems.
