Getting a Good Pet

What type of a dog would make a good companion for a person? Why are companions good for older people to have?

There are a lot of older people out there who are empty nesters which mean that all of their children have grown up and left home and no longer live there with their parents. This can be a very difficult time for the parents to go from having a full house filled with children to not having any kids left at home.

This is a very difficult transitional time for many people and they have a hard time adjusting to their new life. Because kids were present in the home for so long, the parents had a different relationship with each other that involved a lot more parenting than before they had kids.

But when the kids leave home, then they are forced to start spending time alone together and get to know each other as just a couple again. This can be hard if the couple did not spend enough time working on their marriage alone while they were raising their kids.

A lot of mothers out there have a desire to continue mothering something long after the kids are gone. This is one of the reasons why they love spending time with their grandchildren so much.

For those older mothers who cannot see and visit their grandchildren very often, it is a good idea to get a pet. An animal that could provide them with some companionship while their spouse is gone at work.

A great companion pet is a Pomeranian dog. They are known as a pom for short and also a pom pom for humors sake.

They come from the breed of the Spitz type and originate from the region of central Europe which is known as Germany and northern Poland. Classified as a toy dog because their size is so small, they actually descended from the larger Spitz types like the German Spitz.

The German Spitz was a worker and would help pull sleds. In other countries, the Pomeranian is known as the zwergspitz or the toy German spitz.

After a lot of royalty owned Pomeranians during the seventeenth and the eighteenth centuries, this particular breed became more and more popular. Queen Victoria owned a pet of this breed and during her lifetime, this smaller sized dog became even more popular.

They make a great companion because they are usually very friendly and lively. They are very dedicated to their owners and feel very protective around them as well.

They are aware of their changes in their environment and have a habit of barking at anything new in their surroundings that they notice. This shows that they are a little bit defensive of their territory as well as their owners.

Fairly intelligent, they do very well when you train them because they pick up on it quickly. But they are also smart because they can get what they want out of their owners.

It is better to keep them inside rather than outside because they do better with the cooler environment. They like to lie down on tiled floors because they are usually colder than the carpet.

So you can find Pomeranians lying around the vent if the air conditioner is on. Usually Pomeranians will live anywhere from twelve to sixteen years.

If you feed your dog a good diet and keep up their exercise by walking them daily and keeping them active, then they will have very few health problems. Because of their size, they will never have a problem with things such as hip dysplasia because they hardly weigh anything and their weight does not impact their bones at all.

If you neglect taking proper care of them and never brush their teeth, clean out their ears, clean out their eyes, or do not ever take them to the vet for regular checkups, then they can develop health problems. But you will want to take the best care of them that you can because they prove to be a great companion to you when you get lonely.
