How to Train a Puggle

A puggle is actually a half pug and a half beagle. A puggle is the outcome of the mating between these two breeds. As they are hybrid dogs, they have the characters of both of their parents. They have the hunting instincts and the high energy level of the Beagle and the docile lap and playful nature of the pug as well. With the mixed qualities of these two popular breeds, puggles have become more popular than their original non-hybrid parents. They are not much difficult to train if you work with positive reinforcement and fill your training sessions with lot of fun and excitement.

Here are 5 important tips that can help you to make your puggle training easy and effective:

1. Learning about ancestors
As puggles are the hybrid dogs born from the mating between a pug and a beagle, you should first learn about the nature of these two breeds. After knowing the characters and temperament of these dogs, you will be able to handle your puggle effectively. Beagles have been categorized as "Hard to train" dogs while pugs have been categorized as the "average" ones. So, it would be somewhat difficult but not so hard to train puggles.

2. Using the same commands
It seems like a simple mistake but in fact, it's the big mistake that can make your dog ignorant. If you don't use the same word for one specific action, then your puggle get confused and he seems like a dumb to you. So, always use the same word for the same activity or action. As he gets accustomed to those words, they turn to commands and you can enjoy by making him to do different activity with just a word. For instance-while you let your puggle to go inside the house, say the word "Inside" and use this same word whenever you want him to go inside. Soon, you will notice your puggle going inside hearing your command "Inside" without any prompting.

3. Just like beagles, puggles have also the hunting instincts and they follow their nose with more interest than what you are trying to teach or train him. So, when you start puggle training for the first time, select the area where there wouldn't be any kind of distracting smells or scents. When he learns some commands like "Stay" and "Come", you can try training him outside too along with the presence of other pets and people.

4. Rewarding with Treats
Treats are necessary to motivate you puggle for following your commands and enjoying the training sessions. For treats, you can use his favorite food, toy and other fun things. It will attract his attention easily as compared to keeping them on leash and making the training sessions boring.

5. Exercise and Attention
Puggles are very energetic dogs that need a lot of exercise to lose their excessive energy. With enough exercise, you will find your puggle being more receptive to training and not misbehaving as well. As every dog seek the attention of their masters, you should also give a lot of attention to your puggle to make him feel secure and to let him know that you are pleased with him. This is only the best way to train your puggle effectively.
