Dachshund Puppy Training-5 Useful Tips

Dachshunds are smart and intelligent dogs that are capable of taking their own decisions and living independently. These qualities or traits make it quite difficult to train them but with enough patience and time, you can successfully train you dachshund puppy to become a good pet or the member of your family.

Follow these 5 useful tips and you can turn your ignorant dachshund into a well balanced and sociable pet.

1. Potty Training
When we were little kids, we used to relieve ourselves wherever and whenever we like. Just like us, your dachshund puppy will also go potty all the time not knowing the exact place to do it. He may eliminate every 40-50 minutes but the usual time will be after waking from a nap, drinking water, playing a lot and feeling highly excited. So, by knowing the chain or the similar timings, you can prevent this behavior by taking your puppy outside whenever you feel he's going to relieve. Remember to take him to the same spot each day so that he can remember to go to the same spot later on at the time of potty. By repeating, he will develop it as a habit and you don't need to worry about his potty.

2. Nipping and biting
Some behaviors of dog are good when they are puppies but the same behavior can be dangerous and unacceptable when they grow up. For example, it's normal for your puppy to nip and bite your finger in the process of training, playtime and communicating. But if he does the same thing when he had already become a big dog with sharp teeth, it can be dangerous. Avoid this from early on by being dominant over him. Point your finger towards him, stare in his eyes and say loudly to stop that behavior. He is more likely to listen this way rather than punishing him with physical torture.

3. Chewing
Chewing is not quite a big problem. Every puppy chews anything they got at certain age when they got the problem of teething. Instead of not understanding this problem and forbidding them to chew anything, you should provide them with chew toys, balls, old shirt, and your brand new shoes (just kidding) to relief themselves for cutting their teeth.

4. Barking
Barking is a normal behavior of dogs. In fact, if any dog doesn't bark ever, then that may be the actual problem. But I am talking about useless and continuous barking of the dogs. If dogs bark without any reasons whenever they like at any time, then you should try to find out the reason behind it. Your dachshund puppy might be disturbed or feeling lonely. He might be seeing other dogs or some strange things. Find out these kinds of things and solve it to prevent your dog from becoming abnormal and barking at unusual times.

5. Socialization
Socialization is also one of the important parts in the process of dachshund puppy training. As dogs love human company, you can easily socialize your dachshund puppy by making frequent interactions with different peoples and pets. Take him with you at most of the places and let people touch, stroke and caress him. If possible, carry a bag full of his favorite treats and provide them to people to offer it to your puppy at the time of introduction. It will grow positive feeling in the mind of your dachshund puppy and he turns out to be a well balanced and friendly pet.
