High-Resolution Imaging - Pancreas Inflammation on Dogs

Pancreatic inflammation on dogs is where the pancreas has a hard time in sugar metabolism for producing insulin, and digesting nutrients to produce enzymes. Here, dogs have a hard time being still and wails a lot in pain when he or she experiences pancreatic inflammation. The dogs have a very painful abdomen, lack of appetite, depression, dehydration, vomiting and greasy stool. Then a fever comes and infections such as hemorrhage and difficulty in breathing can lead to death if not treated immediately by the vet. It is best that once you see the basic symptoms, bring your dog to the vet for check up and to stop the condition from getting worse.

What actually causes pancreatic inflammation on dogs? There are actually multiple causes, but some major factors are infections and obesity. Dogs that are malnourished are prone to this kind of pancreatic infection, as well as obesity because there is no control in what the dog eats. There is some food that causes the pancreas to inflame and stop producing insulin or digesting nutrients and it slowly stops to function. Another cause is genetic, where there are breeds such as Yorkshire terriers that are prone to pancreatic inflammation. Another kind of dogs that are prone to this is street dogs because they get their food from the garbage and they eat bacteria that harm the pancreas.

When you bring your dog to the vet at the sight of symptoms, the vet will run some lab tests and physical exams to determine the cause and condition of the pancreatic inflammation. The treatment will depend on the condition of the inflammation. The goal of the treatment is to rest the pancreas and to give it proper care. For one, there should be a withdrawal of food first, especially when the dog is vomiting. Then, depending on the response of the dog to food, intake of food can start the next day. When that happens, there抯 a possibility that your dog will have a special diet to take good care of the pancreas.

Another treatment is fluid therapy and nothing beats that. Dehydration is one of the causes too of pancreatic inflammation, so always let your dog drink water---A LOT in one day. Whether you are a dog or a person, nothing could ever go wrong with fluid therapy because water is one of the major cleansers of our body. There is also such thing as pain relievers for dogs suffering in pain, but you must consult your vet first to know whether they can use a pain reliever or not.

Pancreatic inflammation is a dangerous and unpredictable disease and it can happen to any dog, anytime. In order to avoid more of these, watch out your dog and on what he is eating. Bring him or her to your vet at least once a month to check on their health condition. And most importantly, take care of your dog and do not allow them to get malnourished or leave them alone. That is one responsibility a pet owner should do.
