Rottweiler Training - The One Key That Makes Training Easier

Looking for some Rottweiler training tips? While there are lots of dog training resources online that can teach you how to teach your dog to 'Sit', 'Stay' or 'Fetch', there is one thing nobody talks about.

This one thing can help you train your Rottweiler - or any dog - faster and more effectively than anything else.

Rottweilers are especially in need of good training because they are so powerful. While they can be incredible dogs if properly trained - if you don't properly train them, they can be a nightmare.

Another reason why Rotties need good training is that they can be very stubborn and - especially in the first few years - they will test you to see if you're going to be consistent.

Rotties are known to be highly intelligent so they will push the boundaries to see if you're going to follow through.

So what is the key secret that makes training your dog easier? It may surprise you:

Exercise.

Yes, you read that right. Giving your dog consistent, regular exercise time will make them more obedient, more likely to listen to you when you tell them something - and less likely to get into trouble.

It makes sense if you think about it.

Rottweilers are approximately 100 pounds of pure muscle. They were bred as working dogs with high intelligence and a lot of stamina.

To keep this kind of dog locked away in a house all day or - even worse - a crate - is just plain cruel. Your dog will be climbing the walls by the end of the day (wouldn't you?).

He'll also be much more likely to get into trouble. Before you know it he'll be chewing your new shoes or - in my case - the baseboards - out of sheer frustration.

So regular exercise will help him burn off that excess energy. All of the outdoor smells will also help stimulate him mentally (not to mention allow him to 'mark his territory').

You could even try walking him on a treadmill (although that won't replace an outdoor walk - but it is a great addition).

Plus when he's well-exercise, he will learn better when you try to train him.

An older gentlemen with a German Shepherd told me this tip years ago. He said to burn them out with a long walk - and then when they were good and tired - that was the time to train them.

I tried it with my Rottweiler and it worked like a charm. When he didn't have all that energy just bursting to get out, he could focus on what I was trying to teach him.

So while it may seem simple, the key that makes training easier is to make sure your Rottweiler is well-exercised every day. He'll be more focused, learn better - and be too tired to get into your shoes closet!
