Horse Wormers

Worm infestations cause weight loss, colic and also effect performance. It is therefore important to administer an effective worming treatment and regularly clean faeces from the paddock to prevent contamination.

As a horse owner I would always be baffled why despite frequent worming, some of my horses would still have worms. After some research into the issue I discovered that I was not the only one experiencing this problem. It appears that worms are becoming resistant to the chemicals used in horse wormers. But do not fear as there is a simple solution; regularly change the wormer you use to prevent resistance. With so many to choose from it is easy to ensure your horse is effectively protected.

A variety of good quality horse wormers can be found on the internet.

I frequently use Panacur as it comes in both liquid form and paste, and both are therefore easy to administer as they can either be placed in the food or syringed directly into the mouth.
I also use and recommend Equest Pramox.

It is important to be aware that some horse wormers do not protect your horse from all different species of worm. Also some may not be safe to be given to pregnant mares therefore it is important to seek veterinary advice before administering any form of horse worming that you haven't used before.
