Your Dog Needs Exercise Too

Do you think it is fine for your dog to lie around all day doing nothing at all? Well it is not. Dogs need exercise to be healthy, just like we do. No you don't have to envision hefty workouts in some doggie gym to accomplish this either! Just make sure your dog gets some activity in its day.

There are many ways to get your dog active too. Most of the ways are good exercise for you too. The easiest thing to do is just take a long walk with your dog. Be sure not to over-exert your dog though. This way both of you get exercise and can have a good bonding experience.

Another way for dogs to get exercise is to go swimming. Not all dogs enjoy the water though. Just make sure to protect your dog with a life jacket. This is so if the dog gets tired swimming it will be able to float a bit to rest. Also some of these life jackets come with a handle built-in for easy retrieval of your dog from the water. Do not let your dog swim where the undertow is too strong.

Teaching your dog to fetch is a fun way to get exercise. Mine loves to run after tennis balls. She will even chase after snowballs being thrown. Too funny! Your dog will love this enjoyable game and spending time with you too. This will give your dog a great physical workout too.

Your dog can go along with you on many of your travels too. Camping has long been a great way for the dog to get a break from the house as well as you. Most campgrounds accept dogs as long as they are leashed and have their shots. You might have to clean up after your dog though if it goes to the bathroom. Picking up the dog's feces is the right thing to do so that other people do not have to avoid stepping in it. Some places have strict rules on this.

If you are a hiker then take your dog with you. The dog can be a great companion for you as well as protection. Of course, with going through the woods the dog needs the proper flea and tick protection. This protection comes in various forms from collars to top-spot applications. If using the top-spot though, put it on several days before going hiking to give it time to become effective.

If you live in the city see if there is a dog park nearby. These parks have spaces for the dogs to romp loose and interact with other dogs. You still have to keep watch over your dog and make sure there are no problems.

See how easy it is to make sure your dog gets enough exercise? So start today making sure your dog gets enough activity. It will have stronger muscles and the exercise will be good for its heart. Exercise helps your dog maintain its weight also. Help your dog be as healthy as it can be.
