Pictures of Animals For Inspiration and Education

Pictures of animals can be created from a wide variety of media. When animals are photographed, unlike humans, they usually do not pose for the shots. I say usually because some animals just love having their photo taken and will pose for you whether you want them to or not. Mostly though, animals just act naturally and this makes them excellent subjects for your camera and means you will get some great candid shots if you choose pictures of animals as your subject. Animal photographs also make great wall art in both public spaces and at home.

A variation is line drawings of animals which although not looking as natural, have the advantage that the artist can add whatever touches they like to make the animals seem more wild or friendly, more realistic or more abstract. Again, any art that involves animals is usually a great subject to be shown publicly or enjoyed privately at home. These drawings are no exception to that rule. There are a wide variety of media that an artist can use to enhance their drawings. These range from the usual pastels, pencils and charcoal through watercolors and oils and on to the more exotic mixtures like ochres and egg yolks.

Childrens books are often illustrated with pictures of animals, many of them used also for educational purposes like learning the alphabet or for their very first drawings. Small children seem to identify with animals and this makes these books particularly useful as well as being fun and engaging for the children. For the same reason, animal pictures also are often used to decorate the walls of childrens rooms and nurseries. I know from experience as a child, having slept beneath a large tapestry of a rather ferocious tiger, it is probably better to stick with the cute and cuddly furry animals at least until your children have grown up a bit.

There are specific picture books devoted to just a single kind of animal. Books about dinosaurs have been very popular recently. You will also find pictures of animals being used on happy birthday and other greeting cards and this is a great idea if you make your own cards.

Animals are very expressive and it would be a very rare person indeed who has not at some time been moved by some picture of a cute animal or inspired by the magnificence of a wild beast in its natural habitat. My personal preference for wild animal pictures is tigers, particularly if they are active. Favorites are swimming or climbing into trees and I have a particular one that fits into both the cute and wild categories. It is of a baby tiger that has almost managed to climb into the fork of a tree.

Most zodiac signs are represented by animals and so are the years of the Chinese calendar. Many cultures revere animals and photographing and drawing pictures of animals are a natural extension of our curiosity and interest.

We have really been drawing and enjoying pictures of animals since the caveman days when they were drawn with charcoal or ground up colored rocks.
