     Although rabbits are animals, they should be treated well. They should never be treated rudely if you do not want to suffer the consequences. So if you are planning of getting a rabbits as household pets, you should know everything about such animals and how to take care of them properly. Aside from knowing the facts about rabbits, you should also know their basic needs. This is because knowing their basic needs will help you identify the things that should be done or should not be done, the foods that you should give them and many more. Just like humans, the basic needs of a rabbit include foods, housing/shelter, proper care and grooming, socialization. Here are some information about the basic needs of rabbits which you may find helpful.

Normally, almost all creatures need foods and this includes rabbits. Perhaps the most important food that you can give to a rabbit is hay. You have to be aware of the foods that you should not give and should give to your pet. You can just give anything that you want without making sure that you are giving something that is not harmful to your rabbit. If you are going to give your pet some pellets, you should follow the set limitations. You should base the amount of pellets given to the weight of your pet. You can also consider giving some dark-green leafy vegetables to your pet like turnip greens, parsley and basil. But of course you can't just any vegetable; you have to avoid giving cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower and spinach. From time to time, you may also consider giving some treats to your rabbit like carrots, apple, banana or sunflower seeds. Avoid any foods that are high in carbohydrates because these may cause intestinal dysbiosis.

Next is your pet's housing or shelter. If a dog has a dog house, a rabbit should have a rabbit hutch ?a shelter that is really designed for rabbits. A hutch looks like a cage but it has longer legs to keep the rabbit away from predators. When building or looking for an ideal hutch, you have to make sure that it does not have wire flooring. If the walls of are made of wires, the gaps among the wires should not be very big because your pet may escape. Also remember that the hutch should be in a shaded place because extreme heat can be harmful to your pet. And if you have more than one rabbit, a male and a female rabbit should be housed separately.

And lastly, like most pets, you should provide the right amount of time and attention to your rabbit for proper grooming. Before you actually adopt a rabbit, it should already be spayed or neutered. Spaying and neutering are two things that you should not take for granted because these can avoid some diseases and unpleasant behaviors of your pet. And even for just a few minutes everyday, you can spend some time talking, playing and grooming your pet.

By doing all these things and taking note of some restrictions, you are surely going to be a good pet owner. If you think that you are capable of getting all these things done properly, then you are ready to adopt a rabbit.
