Equine Massage Therapy

Your horse's nervous system may react positively with massage therapy. Improved motor nerves, decreased pain and discomfort, alleviate difficulty of sleeping, and enhanced proprioception are just some of the benefits massage therapy. Horses, which are tense due to difficult situations or to a new environment, are said to responsed positively to massage therapy.

Through regular massage therapy, by simply touching the horse's skin gently, a certified professional has the ability to communicate and stimulate the nervous system of the horse. Chemical signals are being used by the nervous system that has a very powerful capability to influence the whole body. Muscle spasm as an example; are being initiated by a specific part of the brain called Golgi tendon apparatus, this special function has the capability to transfer electrical messages that is needed in the said activity. Proper muscle movement and right posture can be properly managed through this way of communication.

Endorphins, an important factor in health and helps in decreasing body pain, are also one of the things being stimulated by equine massage. Hypothalamus, the one responsible for ANS (autonomic nervous system), can also be affected by this horse massage. Some of the situations that affect the hypothalmic activity and ANS, are body discomforts, unexpected emotional situations and tension. A positive chemical change happens if body and environmental discomforts are being alleviated thus decreases tension.

In the many physiologic effects that are recently mentioned, a horse massage stimulates good blood circulation, improved muscle capability and flexibility, fast adjustment on previous accident and recent try outs, decrease the chance for potential accidents, and enhanced immune system, these are just a few of the benefits from this equine massage therapy, but the most rewarding is giving your horse a chance to enjoy this relaxing massage.

In many situations therapeutic solutions are not being taken seriously by horse owners, owners always wait for the time when their horses are already experiencing so much pain before they act and go for massage therapy. We should keep in mind that in horse massage therapy; one does not have to be sick to experience it. Equine massage therapy does not focus purely on the physical needs, but also the emotional aspects of your horse. By simply providing them with this massage, you are also helping them to improve their confidence. Problems such as difficulty moving, inflamed lymph nodes, problems on walking, are only some cases of the clients. Implication of musculoskeletal problems, in which can be seen through irregular hoof growth can also be detected. Hoof development can be influenced by the horse's weight distribution, which can lead us to other possible potential problems.

Mismanagement of muscle stiffness due to too much work and force may lead to more difficult health problems in the future. If muscles are being used beyond its normal capability, its tendons adjust itself to the said activity, putting more risk for potential harm. Through this information, we, particularly horse owners are educated and are able to improve their knowledge on potential problems that may occur, and can avoid it before it happens.

Equine massage is never meant to take the place of veterinary care. Always consult with your veterinarian when you feel there may be a problem with your horse.
