Awesome Tips When Moving With Your Pets

Moving to a new place could be an exciting experience for both you and your furry friends. However, just like the whole process can be stressful and overwhelming, it can feel the same way for your pets. Below are some ways to make the process of moving with pets as simple and as smooth as possible.

Introduce a New Crate:

Whether you are moving with cats or dogs, see to it that you gradually introduce the pet to its new crate months before the day of the move to make your pet more comfortable during the trip. Leave the crate out for several weeks in advance to encourage your pet to crawl in and check it out. Leave dog treats or catnip inside the crate to encourage your pet to explore it. Be sure that it's well ventilated and sturdy if your pet chews a lot. When you're moving with cats, put a little tray inside the crate.

Stay Safe in the Vehicle:

You shouldn't allow you pet to run free in your vehicle. Your pup may stick its head out the window and be vulnerable to debris carried by the air. Your feline friend could crawl all over the car and find itself onto dashboards and under seats, making it risky for the one driving the vehicle.

Keep Food & Medications On-hand:

Instead of packing up all of the essentials of your pet, see to it that you have some (at least one week's worth) of its food and medicines on hand just in case. Before moving, ask the veterinarian for extra prescription refill.

Prevent Motion Sickness:

Just like us humans, cats and dogs can get motion sickness and become dehydrated during the travel. It is not necessary to give water and food to your pet for an 8-hour trip or shorter. Most felines and canines will not drink or eat anything in a moving vehicle. If your cat has a sensitive tummy, do not offer food within 4 hours of traveling.

For canines, lots of water and light feeding must be given at regular intervals. Offer wet food to provide more hydration benefits to your pet. But if the dog is not used to such type of food, now isn't the right time to introduce it to wet food.

Take Some Breaks:

If you are going to stay in the vehicle for an extended period of time, see to it that you frequently take some breaks to give you pet some time to go to the bathroom and stretch its legs. On the other hand, cats should not be allowed out at rest pit stop. Wait until you have arrived at your new place to allow your feline friend out.

Give Your Pet a Quiet Space:

When your movers are putting all of your belongings into your new home, your pet must not be left among all of the chaos. Seclude it in a quiet, safe area like your bathroom, then hang a sign that says "do not disturb" on the door to keep everyone out.
