When is the right time to feed the birds? And How...?

It is a constant bird feeding myth that birds do not like to come to the gardens and feed themselves. According to many studies and researches, it has been proven that birds receive only 25% of their daily food from the feeders.

Although the best time to feed the birds is during the summers (because of longer days), we all know that food shortages can take place any time of the year. Hence, it is important that you feed the birds all year round and this will also mean that the birds are more equipped and strong to deal with various stressful conditions across the year, and especially during the times when there is food shortages.

There are some special quality fresh peanuts for birds that are available that should be provided to the birds. During the autumn and winter, the birds should be fed twice a day, in the morning as well early afternoon.

This is because during such seasons, the birds require high energy food to increase their stamina and strength. An important thing to be remembered is once you have established a feeding schedule for the birds, try not to change it. The birds will become used to the routine and come to your garden accordingly.

It is during the spring and the summer times that you have to take care about the feeding process. Only the selected types of food or the particular wild bird peanuts have to be fed to the birds. They require more of protein diet in their food during the summers. Fruits like soft apples, bananas cut in half, and grapes are also a good alternate for the birds.

It is always recommended to use the particular feeders for the birds as this means there will be less wastage of food and also it becomes more convenient for the birds to feed. If you are giving them peanuts, remember to do so in a mesh of the feeder such that you prevent all types of choking risks.

Another option for feeding the birds is with commercially available fat bars for the birds. Do not forget to discard it after three weeks.

Peanuts can be fed to the birds in many different ways. They are one of the most favourite food products that are liked by almost all kinds of birds. All birds appreciate peanut chunks and chips. Because of their popularity, special peanut feeders are available in the market that makes the process of feeding a lot more easily. It also avoids any food being wasted. Always keep the peanuts in a cool and arid place so that they remain as fresh as possible.

With poor climatic conditions, the shortage of insect foods rises as well. The earthworms are unavailable during some critical times of the year. If you have got some extra food stored with you, it will prove to be very beneficial during the crisis times or food shortage times.

If the food that you have given to the birds is somehow not suitable to them or to their young ones, it is important that you investigate the matter and then provide the correct food to the bird. Also, never give them food or peanuts for wild birds that are not fresh.

Always try to balance the amount of food that you provide with the number of birds coming in the garden. Therefore, you will not attract any unwanted visitors like rats. This technique also ensures minimum wastage of food. Also, you don't want to exhaust all your supplies of the food and suddenly realise that the birds have stopped coming to their favourite destination for food.
