If you are planning to move to Singapore with your pet you best be prepared to be away from him/her for at least a month. There are the quarantine regulations that demand that all pets being imported into Singapore must undergo a thirty day compulsory quarantine period. The Sembawang Quarantine Station offers the best animal quarantine Singapore immigrants can look forward to. All cats and dogs entering Singapore pass through here.

Process of quarantine

Well the quarantine process is rather simple and straightforward. So you want to keep your pet at the station right? The first thing that you need to do is make a reservation for your pet. This is for the simple fact that the station does not have lots of free accommodation spaces for all pets. In order to avoid any disappointments, you should book a slot for your pet at least two months before the expected arrival date of your pet. Once you have done this, you then wait for them to confirm that there is accommodation available for your pet. This is usually after a month or so.

There is one thing that you will have to do before you put your dog onto that plane to Singapore. There is a microchip that has to be installed under your pet's skin. It is the size of a rice grain and it will be used to store data concerning your pet including the name of the pet, age, your contact address and other details. In the event that your pet is lost, you can be sure that he/she will be tracked down with ease.

If your pet is supposed to arrive today in Singapore it is best to make sure that this is the case. At the Sembawang station, due to high demand for accommodation, they only allow a two day wait before they give away your pet's spot to someone else. It is therefore important that you keep track of how the pet is moving otherwise you might be disappointed.

Once the pet arrives then it will be booked in for the quarantine period to begin. This is for your pet's good and that of others around where you will be living in Singapore. The change in climate and the new environment can be hard to adjust to. However with Singapore experts at hand this will be a simpler process for your pet. It is therefore not wise to think of quarantine as function for pets with diseases only. This is just one of the things that will be checked for.

Things you will need

There are several things needed for dogs entering Singapore aside from the microchip. The microchip is compulsory just so you know. Furthermore, you will also be in need of:

1. Veterinarian report

Your pet must have lived in the current country of export continuously for at least six months. The government veterinarian report should also be willing to endorse this fact.

2. First rabies vaccination certificate and other vaccinations

All pets should have an original Rabies Certificate which must state the microchip number and several other details. For import into Singapore, the rabies vaccine must be at least four months old. The other vaccinations must be listed on a separate certificate. They include: hepatitis, distemper and parvovirus. This is for dogs, for cats you must have a certificate for cat flu and cat entiritis vaccinations.

3. Rabies serology test and second rabies vaccination certificate

The second rabies vaccine must be at least a month old. This comes after the rabies serology test which must be done 30 days after the first vaccine and within six months prior to the exportation. Once you have done all of these then you can proceed to book the quarantine space plus get the import permit.
