Possible Causes Of Dog Skin Problems

Some people may find it hard to believe that there could be such a thing as dog skin problems. However, canines can suffer from many of the same ailments as human beings. Let's take a quick look at some of the situations which could be causing your canine buddy to be uncomfortable.

Foods can cause allergies in dogs. Some people are allergic to strawberries, and others are allergic to different types of nuts. Dogs can be allergic to some of the ingredients that are used in processing their foods. Try feeding a good natural product and see if the condition clears up. Also make it a point to explain to other people involved with the pet that they are not to feed the canine anything without first getting your approval.

Sleeping materials could be a problem. Cedar shavings are good for dog bedding because they help minimize tick and flea problems. Be careful about synthetic materials which may be easy to clean, but could be the cause of skin problems in your canine friend. Read the labels for your pets concerns just the same as you do for your own safety.

Cosmetic products of humans can be dangerous for dogs. Dogs like to lick, and especially the hands that feed them. Some types of human hand cream may contain ingredients which are harmful to dogs. Internally they can cause digestive problems, but if used externally on a dog it can cause a skin reaction. Be careful right after applying creams that your little buddy doesn't lick the ingredient off your hands.

Wild vegetation in the yard can cause issues. Plants like Poison Ivy, and Poison Oak cause some people to have severe reactions to the oil that is secreted from these plants. Canines are susceptible to these oils too, and such vegetation should be kept away from their areas of reach and activity. While playing outside with your little furry companion, make a point of looking around the yard to identify possible dangers.

Excited and nervous behavior. People become agitated when they have a constant itch that doesn't seem to go away regardless of how much they scratch it. Dogs are the same. They can keep scratching until they bleed and need expensive treatments. Even the best trained obedience dogs can only take so much, and then they have to address whatever is causing them so much itching.

Regular vet visits and plenty of exercise. Dogs need plenty of activity to keep them calmed down, but they also need regular check ups with a good qualified veterinarian. Worm tests and yearly vaccinations help keep the pet healthy, and provide a record of what symptoms may have developed since the last visit. Don't let heartworms be the cause of the death of your dog because they ate the walls of its heart away.

There could be thousands of possibilities for dog skin problems, but a little time and process of eliminating the obvious can help narrow down the list of viable reasons. Be sure to have a reputable doctor for your canine, and take them in for regular veterinarian appointments.
