Is your dog getting bored of the same dog food?

My older beagle hasn’t been as interested in eating lately. However, he is always excited when the snacks come out. Could it
be that he’s bored eating the same dog food month after month? I decided to check into
this idea and here are my findings.
Going back to when dogs were running wild, they ate a variety of foods. Eating different
foods allowed them to obtain different vitamins and minerals to enter their bodies. That
is a good reason for changing the brand and flavor of your dog food. Another reason to
provide a variety in dog food is to prevent the development of allergies.
Being the wise pet owners that we are, we’ve all chosen a certain brand for varying
reasons. So the first step in giving your dog a change in food could simply be
accomplished by using the same brand but changing to a different flavor. Most dogs
enjoy a new flavor of dog food every so often. How often should we change the food
then? Some people change food as often as every time the bag runs out. This is depends
greatly on how large of a bag you purchase. It is good to change the food at least every 3
months if your dog doesn’t have digestive problems.
“Isn’t this going to make my dog a picky eater?” Actually it works the opposite. As you
begin to change his food flavor he will stay more excited about his food because he never
knows when you will supply him with a different flavor. Maybe you’ll have the brilliant
dog that understands when you throw away the empty bag of food he’ll get a new flavor
the next meal!!!
The most popular way to change your dog’s food is to start out mixing the new food with
the old. The first two days do a 25% new 75% old, days three to five do a 50/50 blend,
and by the end of the week do 75 new 25 old. Starting into the second week your dogs
digestive system should be well accustomed to the new food. Why not just continue
with the mix always to keep the variety? That will just cause the same boredom that we
mentioned initially with your dog eating the same flavors of food all the time.
So go ahead and research some different brands of food for your dog. Your pet will more
than likely love you even more for the change. Maybe he'll love you more than he loves
his orthopedic bed? There are many very established dog food brands to choose from,
and also some fresh new companies offering a large variety of options for pet owners.
