Flubenvet Wormer for Poultry

Flubenvet is made from a licensed formulation specifically for the domestic poultry keeper (smaller poultry flock), it can be supplied by a vet, pharmacist or SQP (via websites such as Vetpharmacy with SQP qualified staff) and it kills all stages of common poultry worms. Flubenvet Poultry Wormer is available in a 60g pot which can treat around 20 birds for 7 day treatment period. It is simple to dose using the scoop supplied, just one 6g scoop treats 2kg of food for chickens or geese and one 6g scoop treats 3kg of food for turkeys. Regular treatment with Flubenvet keeps the number of egg laying adult worms within the bird to a minimal level and that, in turn, reduces infection of the environment where the animal is kept.

If there are lots of birds in a small space then infection can be high, and these birds should be treated every 3-4 weeks initially. Where infection levels are low, because of regular previous worming or larger spaces, control can be achieved by worming every 10-12 weeks. So, not only does regular worming keep birds healthy, it is also cost effective too. The good news is that you can continue to eat the eggs your chickens produce while they are having the Flubenvet 1% Medicated Pre-mixture in their food and after their treatment. Birds must not be slaughtered for human consumption whilst consuming Flubenvet, the meat withdrawal time is 7 days from the last treatment.

Poultry of all kinds can pick up parasitic worm eggs from the soil or invertebrates, such as worms, beetles or wild birds infected by the parasite. Birds kept on the same piece of ground for long periods can easily become infected as the number of parasitic worm eggs builds up in the soil. Flubenvet 1% Medicated Pre-mixture is used to treat for worms such as large roundworm, caecal worm, gapeworm, hair worm and gizzard worm in chickens, geese and turkeys. Activity includes adult worms, larvae and eggs. Large roundworms are 5-8cm long and found in the digestive system, infestations usually occur if birds are kept in poor conditions, i.e. dirty litter/runs or by eating eggs that have been passed out in droppings. Symptoms include loss in egg production, pale yolk colour, anaemia, loss in weight gain and if the infestation is very heavy they can die. Caecal worms are found in the Caecal and can cause little damage but transmit blackhead to Turkeys, this is why turkey breeders will not house them with chickens. They will carry caecal worms without showing any ill-effects.

Gapeworms are found in the trachea or the lungs, infestation can occur by eating eggs that have been swallowed or coughed up by infected birds or by intermediate hosts such as earthworms or snails. Young birds up to 8 weeks are particularly susceptible to gapeworm. Symptoms include respiratory distress i.e. gasping for breath, shaking of the head and neck stretching. Hairworms are really thin, live in the upper part of the digestive system and they tend to use earthworms as an intermediate host. Symptoms include diarrhoea, pale yolks, anaemia, birds looking hunched, dropped wings and with very large infestations they could die. Gizzard worms are thin worms about 2cm long that predominantly affect geese. Geese can get infected by eating eggs that have been passed out in droppings, most likely to occur when geese are kept on the same pasture. Gizzard Worms are probably the most common form of problem in young geese although older geese build up a resistance. Gizzard worm can cause serious damage to geese and can kill goslings. Symptoms include young geese losing condition, stop putting on weight and start to lose weight. They will eventually waste away if left untreated. Worms are not always visible and infection may not always show symptoms.
