Equimax Oral Gel for Horses is an all-in-one, combination wormer containing two different active ingredients. The combination of ivermectin and praziquantel is capable of treating multiple-specie infestations. This means Equimax Horse Wormer has the best combined efficacy and the broadest spectrum of activity of any wormer. Equimax is manufactured by Virbac and registered for use in all horses that have mixed infestations of roundworms, tapeworms, bots, and it is registered to treat all 3 species of equine tapeworm. Equimax syringe for horses is suitable for all breeds and is safe to use on pregnant mares, lactating mares and foals from 2 weeks of age. Equimax Oral Gel, with Green Apple flavour treats a horse up to 700kg bodyweight and is presented in a specially designed syringe which makes it more accurate and easier to use. The recommended dose of Equimax is automatically calculated according to the weight so make sure you know the weight of your horse before treating.

Choosing the right time between anthelmintic treatments is just as important, in the control of parasites, as your choice of product. The objective of treatment is to suppress pasture contamination to within an acceptable level and thereby reducing the rate of re-infestation. By killing the adult stages of parasites inside your horse, before they can do any internal damage will protect your horse and prevent these adults from laying any further eggs (breaking the parasites lifecycle). It has been recommended to treat against tapeworms at least two times a year, in early spring and late autumn, so this would be the times to use Equimax Oral Paste.

The Equimax Horse Wormer (Dual Wormer) treats for most worms in horses. There are two main groups, Roundworms (nematodes) and tapeworms (cestodes). Bots are also an internal parasite of horses during their larval stages, Equimax will also treat these. In the roundworm group you have many different types of worms such as small & large redworm, pinworm, large roundworm, hairworm, stomach worm, intestinal threadworm, neck threadworm and lungworm. Small redworm are the most difficult parasite to control, they hibernate in the gut wall and stop developing over winter. When these stages erupt from the gut in spring they cause enormous damage resulting in excessive loss of proteins, dehydration, colic and diarrhoea.

Large roundworms mainly affect foals, they can become infested as soon as they go out to pasture, this is why you should worm foals within their first 2 months. Large roundworms in foals can cause breathing problems, intestinal blockage and colic. The life cycle of the lungworm is different to that of other worms because the adults lay on the lungs and not in the intestines. This adult stage only occurs in donkey’s, however, horses that share pasture will ingest eggs and are highly susceptible to the immature stages which causes a wide range of respiratory disorders. Adult bot flies are active over the summer months, they lay eggs on the horse's coat between late spring and early autumn, the eggs hatch and larvae are ingested by the horse when it licks itself. Larvae develop in the horse’s stomach, emerge the following spring and are passed out in the faeces. The Botfly larvae in the stomach, creates inflammation causing chronic gastritis, constipation and/or diarrhoea. Tapeworms are found in the small and large intestines and can cause colic, it is very difficult to detect tapeworm in the horses faeces so it very important to treat for this twice a year with a wormer such as Equimax.
