Easy To Train Dog Breeds: The Top Five

29 10:25:42

Easy to train dog breeds are different from smart dog breeds in a lot of ways. Though intelligence might be a great factor, there are characteristics of easy-to-train dogs that are not there in most smart dogs. For one thing, easily trained dogs must have an eager-to-please personality. That is something that most smart dogs lack. They may be smart, but they are very independent thinkers as well. So, if you are looking for an easy to train dog, here is a list to get you started:

• The Australian Shepherd dog ranks fifth in our top five list of easy to train dog breeds. Its coat only needs minimal brushing and bathing. The Australian Shepherd dogs requires a lot of mental and physical exercise though. As common in intelligent dogs, when they are under-stimulated, they become destructive.

• The Doberman Pinscher, or commonly known as the Doberman, is also another easy-to-train breed. Most people are afraid to take on Dobermans as pets because of their known aggressiveness and the mean look that they have with their cropped ears. However, the Doberman's disposition greatly depends on how his master handles him. Once trained well by a master with a firm hand, the Doberman would make a great guard dog.

• The Belgian Sheepdog is sometimes considered as the cousin of the German Shepherd and the Belgian Malinois. They are also a highly intelligent breed, thus also as prone to becoming destructive when not given enough regular stimulation. For this reason, these dogs are not recommended as stay-at-home pets. They'd best be in some ranch where they could run around as much as they want and also have their herding traits put to good use by herding sheep or cattle.

• Some people might be surprised to find the Toy Poodle in this list, but all dog enthusiasts know that Poodles are one of the smartest dogs around. They are also very responsive and are eager-to-please, thus making them great, trainable dogs. However, the Toy Poodle tends to bark a lot, so they may not be great for apartment living. If you want a Poodle with lower energy, a Standard Poodle might be the breed for you.

• Rounding up our list of five would be the Australian Cattle Dog. This dog closely resembles the German Shepherd, but is actually a cross between the Smithfield and the wild Australian Dingo. It also shares many personality traits with the Australian Shepherd. This breed is also considered to be very intelligent and with great stamina, making them perfect cattle-herding dogs.

As you may observe, most of the dogs listed would be herding dogs, as these dogs are highly intelligent and very trainable. Bear in mind that not all easy-to-train dogs are good as house pets. If you want to know more about easy to train dog breeds, please go to: Easy
