Great Danes are naturally loving animals that want nothing but to please their owners. However, an untrained mature Great Dane can be a challenge for every dog owner. Here are some tips to make training less difficult...

- Training Great Danes should be started when they are still puppies. Puppies of three weeks to 12 weeks old should start social investigation, playful fighting and other socialization activities to improve the dog's social relationship. House training can be started to a puppy around three months of age. Do not worry if you have an adult dog. They can still be house trained the same way you house train a puppy. Tricks and basic commands can be taught to puppies around eight weeks of age.- Never punish the puppy. Punishment won't help your pup avoid accidents nor it won't help him master the trick you taught in a matter of minutes. Punishing your pup for every mistake committed will just worsen the situation instead of coming up with a well-trained dog.

- When correcting a dog, never use a harmful physical force or violence. Never hit your dog's rear nor rub his nose at the area where he urinated. This will just cause behavior problems instead of correcting the behavior.

- Communication is important in every dog training. Dog owners and handlers should learn to understand what the dog is trying to tell him. A dog cannot talk and tell his owner that he is stressed or not feeling well. And just like humans, dogs that are not in good condition may not be able to absorb easily the things taught to them.

- Use the appropriate training methods. Some dogs like Great Danes respond well to correction based training, while some do not. Positive reinforcement training and training style like dog clicker training also work well in Great Dane training.

- Use appropriate training tools. Tools such as collars, crate and leash are another blessing to make training easier and successful. Collars come in various type and design. Choke collars, prong collars, electric collars, martingale collars and a few other types are available in most pet supply stores and pet section of grocery stores. Same with crates and leash. They are widely available in the market for every dog owners. Just remember to choose which type of collar or what size of crate is appropriate for your four-legged furry friend.
