Parrots That Are A Challenge

29 9:49:05

The color, size and temperament are what sets one parrot species apart from the others. Some parrots are easy to train and look after, and there are other species that aren't for the faint of heart.

There are hundreds of different parrot species all different in size, color or temperament.

All parrots have a least some ability to talk, and there are some species that are amazingly good at mimicking human speech.

Some parrots are easy to train and look after, and there are other species that aren't for the faint of heart.

Among the most challenging parrot species are the cockatoos, macaws and amazons.

Macaw birds

There are mini macaws, but for the most part macaw birds are big.

All macaws, including the mini macaws can be extremely loud.

Macaws will develop bad habits like feather plucking, screaming and biting if they are handled every day.

Macaws won't usually bit too hard, but they do have beaks that are designed to crack open nuts. Imagine what they could do to a finger.

Teaching a macaw to not bite is part of proper training, but be aware that not all parrots are properly trained, so use caution around an unfamiliar parrot.

In the hands of someone that is willing to spend the time and energy training and socializing with one, a macaw is a great pet parrot.

Amazon birds

Amazon birds are more independent than the other two species and can be fine with a bit less attention, however they tend to be aggressive. This is especially true as they reach maturity.

It takes someone who experienced at handling parrots to keep their aggressiveness under control.

Without proper training and handling amazons can be almost as noisy as the other two birds.

Amazons are great parrots for those that are able to handle them when they get aggressive.

If you know what you are getting yourself into before buying one, any one of these pet parrots are a real joy to have around.

Cockatoo birds

If cockatoo birds don't get constant attention and affection they will turn into real terrors instead of the affectionate and cuddly parrots they are known to be.

If you are thinking of getting a cockatoo be prepared to spend the best part of your day keeping it company. A cockatoo that is ignored for most of the day will become a real terror. Most noticeable will be screaming.

If you have ever been in the same room as a screaming cockatoo you know how loud they can be.

If the thought of devoting a great deal of time giving your parrot the socialization it needs bothers you, then a cockatoo isn't for you.
