Pets can enrich someone抯 life so much. From
dogs to birds, horses to sugar gliders, many members of the animal kingdom
become almost family members to their owners. Animals also bond to an
individual or family. The ties can be very strong between pet and owner. Pets
do require care, but the joy and companionship that they offer makes caring for
them an integral part of ownership.

When a pet will only accept its owner or whoever
is commonly in the house, then it may be stressed by the presence of strangers.
A good example is when I recently became introduced to sugar gliders. They are very
small creatures, native to the jungles. Similar to a hamster with a very long
tail, they have very soft gray fur, a black stripe, and a huge bushy tail. They
get their name from the flap of skin that is stretched from their forearms to
their back legs. When they let go of a branch the air is trapped in the two
flaps of skin and they float to a lower branch or ledge. A friend of mine has
two sets of sugar gliders. One day she took me into a back bedroom that had a
huge bird cage sitting in the corner. She opened the door and inserted her hand
into a soft cloth bag that was suspended in the corner. Then slowly she pulled
her hand out. There, hanging on with all four paws, was a tiny baby sugar
glider. Being nocturnal, he was wondering why anyone would take him out in the
day light. Carefully she transferred him from her hand to mine. As soon as his
furry body rested in my hand he began hissing. I asked her what was wrong.
Calmly she said, 揙h, he doesn抰 know you.?I was absolutely amazed that a
creature, no bigger than the palm of my hand梚ncluding his tail梜new that he
was no longer sitting cradled in the hand of his owner. Amazing!

Dogs are one of the easiest of animals to care
for. Sugar gliders require a special diet of meal worms, chicken, mice, and
lots of fresh fruit. A dog on the other hand only needs dog food, water,
shelter, and love. Sometimes a dog抯 ears can become infected with ear mites.
Carefully cleaning them and putting in ear drops prescribed by the vet can help
alleviate the itching and irritation. Also the dark colored 慸irt?in the ears
is easier to clean up with the use of the drops. The drops are oily, so washing
the dogs head after a few days of application of the drops helps to keep them
looking good.

Horses are the largest pet that most people have. Horses can
be used for competition, work, and pleasure riding, but even equines with jobs
have people that love them. Many horses know their owners. The owner can tell you
all about the horse, what it likes and what it hates. Like a team the horse and
owner many times spend years together. Having a horse stall to put them in is
part of caring for them. On hot days horses like to find refuge out of the heat
and flies. Barns and box stalls are designed to provide enough room for the
horse to move around, lie down, and rest. Stalls built with outside runs also
give the horse the choice of going inside or outside at will. Run in sheds are
also a good option for proving shelter from the elements.

From small to large, all animals help to meet the innate
need of everyone- to be loved. Providing specialized facilities for them such
as the bird cage for the sugar glider and horse stalls for horses are just part
of accommodating their needs and keeping our pets happy and healthy. 燜or more information on how to keep your pet
