Parrot Training And Care For A Happy Healthy Bird

All my life, I have classed parrots as the best pet to have As a child, i loved going to my aunties house as she had a parrot and it was so amusing and endearing. Since my husband died I have been quite alone. Looking back at old photographs, I happened to spot one of me as a young girl next to my aunties parrot.

營 decided that I would purchase a parrot and this would help with my heartache.I must admit I didn't really know how to care and look after a parrot. But, I remember my aunts words that all was needed was a bit of love, time, interest and patience Patience, me? Thought I would go to the library to read up on parrots before visiting the pet shop. This was for piece of mind so that I would know I was looking after the parrot in the approved manner. If any pet of mine was not happy because of neglect, I would not be able to forgive myself.Picked up a great book in the library with plenty of information. The book suggested buying a large enough cage so the parrot could move around comfortably and spread both of its wings. The bottom of the cage had to be lined with paper, cleaned and changed daily to stop food and bird droppings falling onto the floor, this was no problem as I always have the hoover going. The parrot would also want toys, a feeding and water bowl and of course a perch.

Reading on, the parrot would have to be washed once a week with water and dried with a towel. When its claws became too long, then it was advisable to let a veterinarian clip them. Concerning food, the bird needed a balanced diet containing fruits, vegetables, meats and grains. Drinking water must also be changed every day.

There seemed to be such a lot of work that goes into looking after a parrot. It did not put me off the idea actually as I had too much time on my hands anyway. Social contact is imperative ?that suited me as I have always been a bit of a chatterbox.

The pet shop was the next place to visit. The man in the shop showed me a charming Macaw with stunning colors of green and yellow. He also added to the pointers that I was given with tips such as not using chemicals when cleaning the birds cage. As I bought the cage, accessories and parrot all together, he gave me an excellent discount.

My new parrot is now called Dolly. It is not my imagination when I say that a bond was formed straight away. She is my new best friend and she goes everywhere with me in the house. I checked out the internet for more ideas and advice on parrots. Interesting articles on training them, keeping them occupied, teaching them to talk, were all available for me to read, very useful.

I must say specialist websites on parrots are absolutely great, even for oldies like me. Dolly has bought joy and laughter back to my house. In my opinion, one of the most unbelievable pets to have is a parrot.
