The Wolf is considered to be the largest of the Canine Family, which consists of foxes, coyotes, jackals and the domestic dog.

They are very loyal and social animals. They are known to mate for life and live in packs. There are usually 4 - 6 members in a pack. The pack consist of an adult male called the "Alpha Male" and an adult female called the "Alpha Female". The rest of the pack is composed of the couples offspring. Young wolves leave their pack to join other packs or start one of their own after 2 or 3 years, just as many of us would leave our parents home to began our journey through adulthood.

Gray Wolves are the most common but don't let the name fool you. Not only are they gray in color, they are also seen in black or white. They usually live from 4 - 6 years but have been known to live more than 10. Looking at a Gray Wolf is much like looking at a German Shepard. Maybe it's because they are closely related. It is believed that Wolves are the direct ancestors of domestic dogs. Their communication skills are very common.
