Boundaries are a tough issue for a lot of people to enforce. I know when you have a family pet that you want to treat them like part of the family and that usually means spoiling them like a child, but allowing them out free as if they're going to make the adult decision. Well, a dog isn't as smart as we are and they can't determine what is necessarily good for them or bad for them. The last place you want to see your dog is on the road because a car will kill them. This is why I'm going to show you how to set boundaries in a case like this.

I like to put up a fence to physically control the boundaries of the yard. The issue is that a fence can be costly. You're going to have to pay for the wood and the installation can be extensive. If you have a large yard then it is probably going to be virtually unaffordable for you. An electric fence is a cheap alternative. All they use is cheap aluminum posts that probably cost a few cents to make and you just run a wire from post to post. It should take you a few hours to install on the weekend and then you'll know your dog is safe.

The shock they'll receive is just tiny. The dog will understand that they can't cross the fence, but they'll still feel like they're free outside and I guess that is the balance you'll get between spoiling your dog and taking care of them.
