4 Tip to keepyour Dog on the Right weight

Dogs, like humans, can also become over weight or underweight. This is going to be a big challenge for them since unlike us, they don’t really know how to control their own weight. As a responsible dog owner, you have to make sure your dog stays in its ideal weight and not pass, or even go below it. Keeping your dog on the perfect weight helps them stay healthy and keeps them away from getting sick. It also helps avoid genetic illnesses like dm in dogs to get triggered and develop.

Here are some easy tips to help you keep your dog on the right weight.

Size matters

Each dog breed and size will have different ideal weights. This means that you will have to do your research on your dog’s specific breed and how much they should weigh. You can find a lot of sources online, but to be sure, you can always just consult the vet.

Servings

Some people just fill up their pet’s food bowl and leave their dogs to finish all of the food up. Sometimes they do and sometimes they done. The thing with filling the bowl up is that you could be giving your dog too much and it makes feeding them more expensive since some of it could go to waste. Most dog food brands have serving sizes according to the dog’s size printed on the package, so try to follow this.

Type of dog food

Dogs should be given different types of dog food throughout their life. This is crucial since younger dogs have different nutritional needs then older dogs. To start, you can give your puppy a starter kit, which contains all the nutrients and minerals they need to grow strong muscles and bones. You don’t want to give them adult dog food since this could contain too much protein and could cause them to have sudden growth spurts. Giving them the right dog food while they’re young also helps minimize the chances of them developing genetic illnesses like dm in dogs when they’re older. As for older dogs, they might need dog food that contains just the right protein and more fiber to keep their digestion healthy.

Numbers of meals a day

You should just feed your dog one big meal or two medium sized meals per day. Don’t over feed them with treats as well since these can really cause them to pack up the extra weight.  Stick with a schedule so that your dog will know that it’s feeding time and that it can expect some food on the bowl.
