American Polydactyl Cat

A polydactyl cat or American polydactyl cat is similar to any other domestic cat. It is one of the much-loved breeds found generally in Canada, United States of America and in Southern Britain. These cats are born with extra toes owing to genetic abnormality known as polydactyly. Because of the genetic mutation, the extra toe may appear on the front feet, sometimes on the hind feet or on all feet. American polydactyl cats are available in both long and short hair.

Origin

 

During the Colonial Period sailors kept these Polydactyl cats in their ships as a good luck symbol at sea. Due to this, it is assumed that these multiple-toe cats reached in the United States of America during the Colonial Period through ships.
