Stories about the pig

I have many stories about my favorite family pet, whose given name was Kitty, but the name I gave her was the Pig.

She was shaped like a pig, and make noises like a pig, she had a pink noise like a pig and most of all, she gave us more joy and laughter than any pet ever has. She was one in a billion and none of his who knew her will ever forget her.

She would hear my sister and I laughing in her room and scratch the door and when we would open the door and run into the room the noises she would make of glee were something to witness. She knew she was special and when we gave her all that attention she loved it.

I use to say that her cat food was feed, because of all the grunting pig noises she would make. We gave her about 100 different names other than kitty and the pig. The names were endless. One of my favorites was “the dove”, which sounded like love. I must have said to my sister over the years, “do you love this pig” more times than I could ever count.

The pig would flop down while we were watching TV right in front of us, because she always knew that she was the center of attention and she was.

Even though she was very timid, when there was a great deal of moving around in the house she would flop down in the middle of the room, without fear of someone stepping on her. She instinctively knew that she was safe with us.

There has not been a day in 40 years that I have not thought about this 1 in a billion cat. Just a cat? No way. The pig, or the PUG as I would call her sometimes, was the best pet of a lifetime.

When she would flop down on our bed, we would drop dimes, pennies and sometimes quarters on her stomach, and her flab would “Twitter”. Yes I was saying the word Twitter long before that word was popularized by the company. The Pig was a little fat, but not obese. She was cute in every way, and a Calico cat, with yellow and white coat. She loved to be petted and patted, which I did a lot in my childhood.

She left us in August of 1987, as all pets will do, but the memories will always be with us forever.
