The Rapid Evolution Of Online Food Shopping Services

27 12:01:13
The last ten years have seen a rapid growth in online food shopping sites, some that allow you to buy all your groceries from one supplier and others that specialise in one product area, such as pet food delivery. At first not everybody was convinced that online grocery shopping would work, as picking your own produce seems more reliable than hoping the order packer, the order processor and the delivery driver will be focussing on quality. Many hands may indeed make light work, but they can play havoc with your tomatoes. However, it seems that more and more of us are now completing our food shopping online and our initial concerns have been allayed. However, a few teething troubles remain and online food shopping is not always suitable for everyone.

Taking the Chore out of Chore

The big advantages to having a home delivery service lie in the convenience that these services offer. One of the less popular weekly chores is the big shop. Having made it through a busy week, most of us rightly prefer to spend our leisure time in a leisurely manner. While a supermarket on a Saturday morning can provide an excellent work out for both your muscles and your nerves, either strengthening them or weakening them to breaking point, it is not a leisure activity of choice. Online food shopping takes the chore out of this particular chore.

Specialist Services

Specialist delivery services such as pet food delivery are great for anybody with several animals to feed, or unusual animals to feed. Most of us know that even cat and dog food tins dont come in a particularly lightweight version and, lets face it, it doesnt matter how hard you work and cats dont think much of your efforts. Even if you enjoy the weekly fray that is the supermarket shop, it can make sense to have these heavier items delivered in bulk. The bulk buy version available on pet food delivery can also mean significant savings.

Eradicating the Little Shop

While most supermarkets offer excellent deals on the big shop type of food shopping they are not ideal for the little shop version; all of those little shopping trips that are squeezed into already busy days. While many of us are keen to support small independent businesses, the need to do so seems to come around rather too frequently. Additionally, for those on low incomes or older people, the advantages of online grocery shopping are outweighed by the costs of delivery. Until relatively recently some of those who could benefit from the convenience and ease of home food delivery, have not always been in a position to take advantage of them.

Early Morning Stars

This has gradually changed as more suppliers have entered the market. Grocery delivery services are now available on a much smaller scale from suppliers as diverse as organic farms to the local milkman. While some may feature delivery charges not all do. Many veg box schemes, for example, will have a set fee when you sign up which includes delivery and the produce. As to that early morning star of the streets, also known as the milkman has never been in the habit of charging for their deliveries.
