Life After The Loss Of Your Pet

27 11:40:30
Losing your pet can be a severely painful and difficult experience, one that people who have never had pets might not understand. Their thoughts of, "It's just a pet," or "Why don't you just get another one?" only add insult to the injury. Each animal is unique and full of character. Besides, animals make loving and loyal companions, whose presence is a blessing in their owner's lives. Losing them is like losing a good friend its something you never want to deal with.

But because its heartbreaking, and it happens, here are some suggestions on the loss of your pet. Nothing can bring your beloved animal back; but these words may help you cope:

1. Allow Yourself to Grieve

- Realize that its okay, normal even, to feel sadness and grief at this point. Cry if you want to.

- Be patient and kind with people who dont understand your grief maybe all they need is for you to explain it to them.

- Talk to people about your loss, and tell them how you feel. It might especially help you to talk to other people who have lost pets. They can help you through it, sharing their own stories of pet loss and how they coped.

- The loss never goes away, but it does get better. So give yourself time, because things will get better for you, too.

2. Allow Yourself to Live

- Even while you are grieving, allow yourself to experience some of the joys of life.

- Think of the good times you had with your pet relive them in your head and smile. Recall details about your pet, and even considering journaling about them: remember the way your animal looked or smelled; the sounds it made and the things it did. Enjoy the memories.

- Find things to be happy and joyful about, especially after the first few days have passed. Dont dwell on the negatives of what you are feeling. Think of your pet, and consider how it would have wished you happy.

3. Allow Yourself to Move On

- It may be difficult at first, but consider getting another pet to fill the void you feel. Again, you may want to wait a while, but if youre craving companionship, a new pet will help.

- Realize that getting a new pet does not mean replacing your old one. Your old pet will always hold its place in your heart, but youll get to know and love a new animal too.

- As you grow to love your new pet, youll realize that your time and resources have been well-spent, and that your affections are gladly returned. And youll still think of your old pet fondly.
