What Pet Food Companies Dont Want You To Know

Everybody wants to feed their pets the best food they can buy for them. Pet food companies make this easy for people with their fancy words and pretty packaging. Most people may not realize that that is all that it is, fancy words and pretty packaging. The two things don't tell you of all the harmful things that could be in your pet's food.

The first thing that some pet owners may not know is that it is okay to feed your dog, no matter what age or stage in their life the same things. If you have a puppy, you find a food that agrees with the dog and you can continue giving that to your dog when he is two, five and even ten. The life stage advertising on the packages is just that, advertising and a way to get you to spend more.

When you go to the pet store to get food, make sure and look at the date on the bag. The shelf life of a bag of dog food is around 18 months. Would you eat food that had sat on a shelf for 18 months? I know I wouldn't. Why should your pets? As time goes on, the vitamins and minerals in your pet's food degrade so they aren't as potent as they are if you would buy a bag that was just manufactured.

Do you happen to buy your pet a "diet" food? Does it actually do anything to benefit your pet? These foods that are labeled "lite" have less meat and fat in it. These are two of the more expensive ingredients. They replace these ingredients with a lot more grains and other fillers to reduce the calories in each serving. Your pet is really no different than yourself. A diet without exercise doesn't work. If you dog needs to shed a few pounds, reduce the food intake and increase the amount of physical activity that your dog does.

There are many more secrets that pet food companies don't want you the consumer to know about. Your best bet to ensure that your pet is getting the best food they can possibly get is to do your research. Look into finding a holistic or all natural pet food store. These stores will gladly give you a list of ingredients that are in their foods and they are more than willing to explain how their foods and treats are made and they can prove that their products are all natural or oven baked. It will say it right on their packages and they will point this out to you. There is no guessing when you buy a bag of organic or all natural made pet food. No gimmicks or sales tricks to deceive you into buying something that you don't want to feed your pet.

Be good to your pet and choose the best foods for them. Don't let manufactures fool you into buying unhealthy products for your pets.
