Protecting Your Pets

27 11:37:35
It's so easy for your precious pet to become like a member of the family. When you fall in love with your pet, the bond is so strong that you'd likely do anything to protect it. Fortunately, there are a lot of things you can do to keep your pet as happy, healthy, and most importantly of all, as safe as possible. Many of these things might require a little work or financial investment on your part, but in the end the wellbeing of your furry friend is well worth it, and so is the peace of mind you'll have knowing that your pet is cared for and safe at all times.

Spay or Neuter Your Pet

Spaying or neutering is essential for your pet's health. It reduces the likelihood of certain diseases and health conditions and also prevents unwanted litters of puppies or kittens. Even more importantly, spaying or neutering your pet can greatly reduce the risk that they will wander away from home, something they typically do when in search of a mate. This, in turn, reduces the likelihood of having your pet stolen, picked up by animal control, hit by a car, or losing its way.

Invest in a Fence

Pets love to play outside, but when you let them out into the world, there are many risks and concerns to worry about. It is possible, however, to allow your pet to enjoy the great outdoors and to do so safely. Consider adding a fence to your property. This doesn't have to be an expensive investment, but you will want to make sure the fence is secure enough so that your pet cannot escape it. For cats or smaller animals or if you don't want to add a fence, a screened-in porch can do the trick as well.

Visit the Vet At Least Once a Year

Most veterinarians will want to see your pets several times a year to ensure they are in optimum health. Vet visits, however, can get expensive, so if you're struggling with cost, at least aim to get your pet in yearly for an annual checkup. This will make sure your pet is up to date on all vaccinations and is in the best of health. If funding is a problem, you may want to talk to your vet about specialized options, such as pet insurance or even credit cards that can be used for veterinary care.

Opt for SpotLite

Technology is a wonderful thing, and recent new technology has made it possible to take better care of your pets than ever before. SpotLite is a unique GPS system designed for use with pets. It allows you to know exactly where they are at any given time, making it easy to find them in the event that they escape, are stolen, or get lost. The device, in fact, can give you regular updates, as often as every thirty seconds, as to where your pet is located, and if desired, you can even receive step-by-step directions to reach your pet's location. The system attaches easily to your pet's collar and features a special button that, when pressed, will alert you to the pet's location.
