Traditional Pets Have Gone To The Dogs

Pet lovers come in all shapes and sizes, like the pets that they love. Nothing is as comforting as having a pet that loves an owner. There are many varieties and breeds of pets. From the exotic to the domestic, to the interesting and unusual, pets and pet owners find a common bond that brings them together.

Pets can be reptiles, mammals, birds or fish, just about any conceivable creature can be a pet, but there are some exceptions that should be avoided like wild animals that wonder into the back yard and animals that may be a threat to other members of the family.

With that in mind selecting a pet can be an entertaining an exciting process. In choosing the right kind of pet, one should consider what special living arrangements a pet may need or what type of diet is best of the pet in question and how ease is it to acquire the necessary nourishment for a pet. For example, snakes make wonderful pets, but the eat mice; live mice, and dropping a live mouse into a habitat may not be comfortable for some pet owners.

Tarantulas are another example of rare pets that prefer to dine on insects such as crickets. Although someone that would keep a spider as a pet may not be squeamish about feeding live insects to an arachnid, there are those that would consider something cuddlier to be an ideal pet.

Cats and dogs give many owners a sense of comfort and friendship. Cats make good pets because they are independent and keep to themselves when they are not in the mood to be petted, while dogs on the other hand require almost constant attention and love to play with their owners indoors or out.

Dogs have a great deal of energy and seldom sit still when they are awake. Dogs come in every shape, size breed and color. Like cats, dogs may have long or short hair. Cats sleep for two thirds of the day and prefer to keep to themselves. However, owners should be aware that cats with claws may damage furniture by scratching and sharpening their claws.

Then there are fish. Pet lovers with fish need only clean the tank when it becomes dirty and remember to feed their fish once daily. Fish, just like other pets, come in many varieties. Salt water fish require a balanced ecosystem to survive with heater and pH balances of salt and minerals to nurture their existence.

Whatever the selection, pet lovers would be well advised to find a pet that fits their personality and living habits.
