Taking care of your arowana fish may be complicated for some owners but it all comes down to 5 simple important factors to ensure that your pet arowana is living a healthy, happy, and comfortable environment.

When having an arowana, the first thing that will cross your mind is where to put it, in a pond or in an aquarium tank. But for now, we will focus on arowana fish tank because this is the most basic form of shelter. Arowanas grow an average of 3 to 4 feet when in captivity. Smaller tanks limit the growth of arowanas and cause stress among them. An average tank should have a length of 4 to 5 feet to maximize the growing potential of arowanas. You should also take into consideration the background of the tank. Background colors depend on the type of arowana fish you own. The purpose of the background depending on the type of specie you have also serves as a comfortable view for you and its audience. Also don抰 forget to put a durable cover on top of the tank. Arowanas are high leapers and might jump out of the tank which is a common accident among arowana enthusiasts.

Second thing to put in mind is how often you change the water in the tank. When you frequently change the water in the tank, the arowana fish is distressed with the change of water temperature and the irregular levels of acidity of the water. You need equipment that will help you to just change the water in the tank only once a week. That抯 when the filter system enters the scene. Make sure that the filter systems are fully operational, otherwise it will pollute the water and poison the fish. I suggest you install both an external and internal filter for better water circulation.

Third factor is the water condition. Arowanas, particularly the Asian type, prefer slightly acidic water with pH levels of 5.5 to 7.0. This is because they originated from Southeast Asian waters with that same level of acidity. This factor helps in exposing you arowana抯 brilliance at its full potential. The water should have a balanced presence of calcium, iron and other minerals necessary for the growth, brilliance, and health of an arowana.

The fourth factor is the lighting on the tank. Like the background of a fish tank, lighting also depends on the type and color of the arowana you keep. Proper lighting helps your pet arowana develop its colors to its full brilliance and radiance. Sunlight also helps o develop the color of your pet because of its natural substance but too much sunlight especially at these times may be harmful to you arowana fish. So have a proper balance of artificial and natural lighting.

The fifth and last factor is the food you give to your pet arowana. Give your arowana fish live foods as much as possible rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals. Insects like cockroaches and crickets are rich in protein and a delicacy to arowanas. Small fishes like goldfish are also rich in protein. Pelllets are nutrition packed non-live feed that may be fed to arowanas. Just make sure to buy these pellets on authorized pet shops. When you pet arowana reaches its full length and size, that is the time to feed it with exotic delicacies like frogs and other larger animals but smaller than the arowana and fits well in its mouth. I even saw a video that they can eat a full mice and a duckling.
