揇iabetic Alert Dogs?usually start as just ordinary dogs, nothing special except that they have a good temperament and they are trainable with a desire to please. They are the ones that are self assured and are forgiving when their senses are assaulted, the ones that come back for more. The difference is that these dogs have been very well obedience trained and then scent trained as well. So, how does one go about scent training 揇iabetic Alert Dogs? The first thing to do is to capture a sample.

揇iabetic Alert Dogs?are trained to detect the scent that is given off when the blood glucose level is too high or too low so this is the time to collect a scent to train with. The following will explain how to go about capturing a pure sample to train with.

Capturing a Sample For Training a 揇iabetic Alert Dog?

Preparation for capturing a pure sample

?Select the clothing items that you will be using for samples. Remember that these items will be cut into small pieces to be used during the training process. These can be old t-shirts, socks or any other item that you would be willing to use.

?Wash these items in unscented laundry detergent to remove any scent that is already on them. Even if they are already clean wash them to remove any other scent. If you use fabric softener, you will want to do the same with that use only unscented fabric softener.

?During the capture period do not use anything on your body that is scented. That includes soaps or body washes that you normally use. Only use unscented products.

?Do not use colognes or other scents including hair sprays that are scented.

?Do not use deodorant or anti-perspirant that has scent added to it. You can use alcohol under your arms to prevent odors.

?After you have prepared your clothing for capturing the scent you will want to wear these items of clothing and just wait for a low blood sugar to occur.

?You can also have handy if you would like gauze squares that you will wipe inside your cheek during a low episode.

?Once you have a low you will first want to treat yourself to prevent a more dangerous situation. After treating and before your sugar level begins to rise, take off the clothing item and place it into a heavy Ziploc baggy and then bag it again in another. Place it into the freezer to prevent it from deteriorating.

?If you have a fresh spill on the item please cut it out before placing it into the baggy. This will prevent any contamination from the odor of the spill.

?Let me know as soon as possible that the sample is ready.

?Place it into a heavy over night mailer and send it to me over night.

Now that you have your pure sample, send it to your 揇iabetic Alert Dog?trainer and they will do the rest.
