First, safety is a major concern. Pets that aren't confined can be injured during quick stops or even thrown from the vehicle. You might also get hit by the loose animal and injured. It could also get under your feet and cause you to not be able to accelerate or brake at a critical moment. Kitty may like riding in your lap, but a deployed airbag could end his or her life.

If you have several animals that need to be transported at once, you will want carriers for all of them. Fights won't be an issue then. You also won't have to worry about them hurting each other in case of an accident.
