Some people have cats, some people have dogs and some people have pet pigs. Yes you read right. You can now own your own miniature pig.

They are quite cute little creatures to fall in love with.

But before getting one you must be sure that you ready for a pet pig.

Thinking about getting a pet pig or also known as miniature pig? Like any other pets there are a lot of things to think about before getting one. Here are 6 things to consider before getting one.

1. Are you financially stable? Owning a pet does not come cheap. You need to have money for food, toys and medical bills. If you are having problems financially then perhaps now is not the right time to get a pig.

2. Are there any pet restrictions in your area or community? Check with your local area if you are allowed to have a pet pig.

3. Is your house suited for a mini pig? If you live in an apartment then I wouldn't recommend getting one. It would be best if your house had a big backyard or a garden.

Your piglet should have a place where it can play, eat, sleep and go potty. Miniature pigs are smart animals and learn fast. You can put a kitty litter inside the house and teach it to go potty there. Or if you have a fenced backyard you can make it use a dog door. Always remember to never leave your mini pig unsupervised. Stray dogs or even hawks can get to them and harm them.

4. Do you have young children in the house? If so, make sure you teach them to respect the animal and not to be rough with them. A pig can lash out on a child if it feels threatened by them. Never leave a young child and a pig together unsupervised.

5. Do you have a veterinarian? Look for a vet in your area who knows about pig care. You could also ask your breeder if you need any advice about training and caring for your baby pig.

6. Who will take care of your baby? Have a pet sitter ready to be there for you just in case you have to leave town or the country.

Really want to own a pet pig? Make sure you go through this list before getting one. You want your baby pig to be happy. After all, they're gonna be your beloved companion for 10-15 years to come.
