Although many restaurants, pubs and other eateries no longer allow you to take your dog in them, you may be surprised to learn there are still a few around the capital that do! But what does the law say about dogs being allowed into areas where people eat? The answer is that as long the proprietor follows strict standards of hygiene, then dogs are allowed on the premises – according to the current EU legislation that is.
Dogs are allowed in restaurants, pubs, cafés, tea rooms and any other places where people eat, at the discretion of proprietors. A few years ago the Kennel Club of Great Britain began a campaign to encourage businesses to be more dog friendly – they called it “Open for Dogs” and it all started back in 2008. England is a nation of dog lovers, so why not take beloved pooches out on a social outing?

Naturally, taking a dog on a social outing means they have to be well behaved and on a lead at all times. However, having a meal, a cup of tea and a cake in a dog friendly environment is a lot of fun. Puppies can learn a lot if they spend more time out with their owners, and what better place than in a restaurant, pub or café – it certainly beats going to the vet to learn how to sit quietly and behave!
