Clothes for dogs are a safe option this Independence Day

4th of July celebrations are incomplete without fireworks. But these loud colorful treats make your pets, especially dogs restless and uncomfortable. Even though there are many organizations that create awareness about the ill effects of fireworks on pets, it is not possible to completely stop people from bursting them.

Never the less, firework displays and loud noises mean that this is a difficult day for your pet. However, ensuring a few things, as listed below will make it easy for your pet dog to get through the day.

  • Stay indoors

Staying indoor is usually the best option for your dog instead of taking them out. Use a comfortable playpen and put in lots of toys. Decide to set up the playpen in a corner that is safe and where the fireworks won't be that loud. Also, if possible do not leave your dog alone for long periods. Come and check up on them regularly amidst all the barbeque hopping.

  • Give him a treat

Giving your dog a treat or buying something that comforts him/her is a good idea. Wrapping him/her in its favorite blanket or dog coat will make him/her feel comfortable and protected.

  • Close windows and doors

Keep all the doors and windows closed. It will lessen the noise and your dog won't come across any flashing lights which might scare them more. Closing the curtains and blinds also helps to a great extent. You can also try drowning these noises by playing familiar television shows or music that your dog likes watching. Ensure that these sounds are not loud as that may cause great discomfort to your pet.

  • Stay calm

You need to keep in mind that your presence makes a lot of difference for them and so does your mood. A dog reacts to your behavior, so panicking or shouting on them will only make matters worse. Give behavior training a miss on this day.  Comforting them, talking to them and spending time with them will make it smoother for you and them.

  • Make them a part of the festivity

Fireworks are only a part of the celebration. Dress your dog up in 4th of July dog clothing to make them feel like a part of the celebrations. Or bring them a few accessories. Do not leave them out completely as your pets take cues from your behavior.

One of the most useful clothes for dogs is a life jacket. This jacket comes with three layered protection and is ideal for active and adventurous dogs. It is designed to fit a dog comfortably and protects them in case of an emergency.
