How to Choose the Right Kennel for Your Pet While You are Away

If you are a pet owner, you know that it can be difficult to enjoy vacation if you are worrying about your pet at home. That is why you will want to plan a great place for your pet to go to when you are out of town. You need to find a kennel that is somewhere that you feel comfortable with, as well as your pet, and one that you can really trust to take care of that furry family member. Depending on what type of animal you have, you may need different needs when looking for a place.

For instance, if you have a dog, there will be many places you can look at. There are places like a conventional kennel environment to upscale "resort- style" facilities for dogs that have extras such as; group playtime, interactive food puzzles, training time,
or grooming, and even some spa services. You can also look into "cage-free" boarding, where the dogs spend their time roaming with fellow dogs, and bedding down for the night on dog beds in a common area. This is great if your dog does not like to be contained. There are also others that have the dogs confined to their kennels throughout the day except while being exercised by kennel staff.

If you have a cat, it can usually lead to a bit more thought. You cannot always just leave the cat a bunch of food and water and hope for it to be okay. Cats can get stressed when their owners are away, and can make themselves sick. Cats require a different kennel situation compared to dogs. They often to not like other animals and therefore being in a place that has a lot of other animals can make them worse off. When you are looking for a kennel for your cat, you should visit it first and see just how many animals they take at a time, and if they have any privacy. This can keep them from getting overly stressed.

There are many different kennel choices so you want to find the one that feels better for you. If you do not like the idea of a kennel, you can always see if a friend or family member will pet sit for you, which will give the animal the family atmosphere that they crave. Better yet, find a kennel that treats each border like a member of their family.
