Kenya Safari Holidays: Unique Options

28 12:06:52
If bumping along a dusty safari trail in a four-wheel truck, peering through binoculars to spot the Big Five and uncomfortable tented campsites at the end of a day, with all your joints aching in protest, is not your idea of an ideal safari holiday, there are plenty of exciting options available on Kenya's safari circuits!

Try a panoramic balloon safari! It's one of the most adventurous and scenic ways of game viewing especially if you're in Kenya during the Great Migration of wildebeest and zebra, with millions of animals moving across the dusty plains, followed by thousands of hungry predators. The early morning balloon ride gives a spectacular view of the savannah, and the wildlife, birds and vegetation dotting the landscape. This is usually followed by a delicious, fresh breakfast prepared and served outdoors, with champagne to add sparkle to the morning mists! Overnight stay in luxury lodges or tents can be included for longer stays.

Flying safaris are a great option if you're strapped for time. They can be expensive, but it's a great way to cover large distances and take in more than two or three National Parks in the space of a few days. For instance, a flight across to Samburu Park over the peak of Mt Kenya, and over the equator, or one to the Masai Mara with a game drive included, or to Amboseli with Mt Kilimanjaro in the background, and a day's game drive in this scenic park, with sundowners on a balcony in a luxury lodge are all great flying safari options. Travel is by light aircraft from Wilson Airport near Nairobi.

Sea-life safaris: If you're a marine life enthusiast and also a water-sports lover, then a marine safari would be a good idea. Kenya has a fabulous Indian Ocean coastline, with superb beaches, islands like Mombasa and Zanzibar and smaller secluded ones, with ancient trading posts and townships all along the coast. Diving, snorkeling, deep-sea safaris, surfing, scuba-diving and trips in glass-bottom boats are on offer here. Planning a beach wedding or special event is another great idea, with several affordable or luxury packages on offer. Viewing the coral-reefs rich with colorful tropical fish and sea-life would be a lifetime opportunity.

Budget Camping: For back-packers, youngsters, students and those with no taste for luxury, the budget camping option is available in most National Parks in Kenya. Small tents, with mattresses or sleeping bags, mosquito nets and outdoor shower and toilet facilities are available. The thrill of spending nights outdoors, with barbecues and campfires, great food and wines, gives the ultimate camping experience in Kenya.

If you're game for a safari that's off the beaten track, do your research and pick an unusual option!
