Moving to a new area can be very daunting, so it is always best to do some research and look into what attractions and things to do are in an area. In this next instalment of our series we will look at the attractions of Southend on Sea.
Southend on Sea is a seaside resort in the East of England and is part of Essex. The resort is 40 miles from central London, so has plenty of visitors from the London area.
The town is best known for its seafront and has a railway that runs the length of the pier which is a great way to see the area.

Adventure Island
Adventure island is a unique theme park that is located at the entrance of the town's pier. What makes it unique is the fact it is free entry to the park and you only have to pay if you want to go on the rides. Which is great for large families where only a few members want to go on rides. If you do want to go on the rides, you have to purchase a wrist band. 10 for small children, 15 for older children and 22 for adults. These prices are worked out by height and not age but you can get discounts if you order them online.
The park has plenty of rides and attractions that will keep the whole family busy. Rides include Rage, Skydrop and Vortex. For more information visit http://www.adventureisland.co.uk

Sea life Aquarium
The aquarium is located on the beach near adventure island. The attraction is touted as the south east's premier aquatic attraction that has over 40 displays of sea life from all over the globe. Sea creatures that feature in the park include lobsters, piranhas, turtles, tropical fish seahorses and sharks. The attraction is another great place for the whole family to visit and include adventure towers play centre and the waves caf. The aquarium opens at 10 am, but closing times depend on the time of year. Tickets are 6.50 for adults and 4.95 for children. For more information visit http://www.adventureisland.co.uk

Southchurch Hall Museum
If you are looking for a more cultured attraction in Southend on sea, why not pay the Southchurch Hall museum a visit. The museum is set in a half timbered medieval house that dates back to the 14th century. The hall is laid out into a set of period rooms and has a great open hall that shows life in the middle ages. The solar wing shows life during the Tudor and Stuart period and the service wing has various other displays for other time periods.
The museum is often used by schools and educational establishments as it is a great learning aid. So if you want an insight into life during different time periods in England, we recommend paying the Southchurch museum a visit.
