The town Tynemouth is an historical village nestled on the edge of the North Sea nine miles east of Newcastle upon Tyne. It is found in an old Tyneside resort adjoining North Shields with its fish quay and market.

The pier is overlooked by the gaunt ruins of a Benedictine priory and a castle. Splendid sands, amusement centre and park. It is an ideal base from which to explore the many treasures available in Northumberland and surrounding areas. On a scenic headland, Church Point is the ideal place to relax and unwind. The village has many eating and drinking places, made accessible over a wide area by the Tyneside Metro, but still retains a few quiet corners and a sense of elegant charm.

The only toy museum in the north east of England can be found here. It has over five thousand toys on display from 1890s to the 1970s. Its services include a dolls hospital and toy repair service.

A world of underwater adventure waiting to be discovered at Blue Reef Aquarium in Tynemouth. Otters are among the most enchanting and graceful aquatic mammals in the world, perfectly adapted to life above and below the water. This innovative new indoor freshwater display offers specious naturally themed surroundings for a family of Asian short clawed otters allowing close encounters.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institutions first motorised craft was stationed at Tynemouth. It was also the birthplace of the Volunteer Life Brigades and still has one of the few remaining.

Tynemouth, however continues to attract visitors to its sands and historic buildings.
