Most of us recognize it is hard to shed stomach fat, especially when you have devoted the last fifty-odd years growing it. A lot of our modern diet is built around foods that are easy to eat and that's why we like them. If you think about the food you like it is generally things like sweet drinks, candies, cookies, breakfast cereals with plenty of sugar. This includes foods like soft, white bread, bread rolls and hamburger rolls.

All these foods are easy and pleasant to eat but they have one important failing: they are too easy for your body to process. This might sound silly but the fact is your body needs food that is harder to process if you want to lose weight. You need to give it work to do in processing food as this will make it use energy or calories while the process is going on. So, just by eating food that takes longer to process you are helping your body fight fat.

That's where high fiber and protein foods come into the picture - they are actually weight-loss food. These foods do two things. They make your body slow down the digestion process, which makes it use calories and they make you feel fuller for longer so you are not looking for more food soon after you eat. High fibre foods make you feel fuller; high fibre and protein foods give you sustained energy. There are weight-loss foods and here are some of them.

High fiber foods -

*Wholegrain or multigrain bread, natural muesli, oats or bran

*Nuts and most fruits and vegetables

Protein foods -

*Lean meat, poultry and fish

*Cheese, milk, yogurt

*Most varieties of beans

*Soymilk and soy products are very high in protein

*Once again fruit and vegetables fit into this list as most have some percentage of protein

This is a short list but it covers a wide variety of foods - plenty to choose from and to replace some of the foods you are having now.

As you can see, changing to a diet that will help you lose stomach fat does not have to be too restrictive or boring as there are plenty of tasty foods on the list, and they are not hard to get. They are no harder to get than the foods you might be eating now.

Making the change need not be all that difficult. Admittedly, you could suffer some inconvenience. For example, you may have to make your own lunch if you cannot find the right food near your work or you may have to put a little more thought into where you can get the foods you need. But we have all had to do that if we want to look after our health and control our weight. Take some steps now to change your diet, as this is the most important thing you can do to help you lose your stomach fat.
